Vallene Karamoy Nurse Val spent the majority of her life serving individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. She grew up in Southern California where, starting at the age of 5, she followed her parents around in the group home where they worked as live-in caregivers to individuals with I/DD. She loved “helping” around the home in any way she could, watching closely as her parents provided the love, care, patience, dedication, and advocacy she would later aspire to. She left California to pursue a nursing degree, and after graduating in 2016, she joined her husband Herry in Colorado as a Host Home Provider, entering the field professionally for the first time. In 2017, she left traditional bedside nursing to go back to the field she knows and loves. As the nurse for Lighthouse Residential, Val enjoys collaborating with the team and providing health monitoring and consultation. She is an active member of the Colorado Association of Nurses for the Developmentally Disabled and absorbs all the information she can from conferences and other resources to create quality care plans and navigate various situations. Outside of work, you can find Val watching movies (the same ones, repeatedly!), shopping, spending time with family and friends, or organizing something. Val also loves going on trips and creating experiences for the individuals she and Herry serve. |
